Cops record statement from Siti Mastura

KUALA LUMPUR: Kepala Batas member of parliament (MP) Dr Siti Mastura Muhammad arrived in Bukit Aman today to give her statement regarding an alleged defamatory remark made against DAP Chairman Lim Guan Eng.

The Pas MP arrived at Police Headquarters Bukit Aman at 11am today, accompanied by her lawyer, Ahmad Amzar Ahmad Azlan.

Her lawyer later confirmed that the MP went to the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) for a statement record, which took about an hour.

"I have given my statement to the police, and we shall make the necessary follow-up soon as advised by my lawyer," Siti Mastura said in a press conference.

When asked if Siti Mastura would retract the statement or make a public apology over the remark, her lawyer Ahmad Amzar answered, "It is as it is; there are no changes to whatever has been stated."

"We have submitted all the materials we collected to the police for their reference. Whether the materials are relevant or true to fact, we leave that to the police to investigate," he said.

The lawyer said they received four letters of claim from the veteran DAP leader, Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng and his wife, Betty Chew, also Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.

"We have yet to go through the letters of claim in detail. We shall take any subsequent actions after evaluating the claims," he said.

Meanwhile, Siti Mastura questioned the investigation status over the Bagan MP's statement in July.

"I wonder what is the update to Bagan's 3R (race, religion, and royalty) related statement that was made in July, with his remark related to temples and kuil," she said.

It is believed that Siti Mastura was referring to Lim's green wave statement that allegedly touched on the 3R issue.

Lim has refuted the allegations, asserting that his Mandarin speech was misrepresented, creating a false impression that he claimed certain groups were plotting to damage Buddhist and Chinese temples.

In defence, he said he was referring to the case of a Hindu temple being demolished in July 2020 in Alor Setar, Kedah.

The police have confirmed receiving six reports over Siti Mastura's case.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, in a statement yesterday, said the case would be investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Siti Mastura, during one of the programmes in Kemaman, Terengganu, reportedly said the former finance minister and several DAP leaders had ties with former Communist Party chief Chin Peng and Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore.

Lim has initiated criminal action and legal proceedings against her for the allegations she made.
