Bersatu unanimously rejects Muhyiddin's decision to not defend his post, says source

SHAH ALAM: Bersatu has unanimously agreed to reject the decision made by its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to not defend the latter's post.

A source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the party's supreme council members made the decision during the party's emergency meeting this evening following the announcement made by Muhyiddin, earlier today.

"During the meeting, we asked whether anyone would want to contest the post. However, no one did (raise the issue to contest) and we unanimously agreed to not accept the decision made by Muhyiddin," said the source when met on the sideline of the party's annual general assembly.

The source said an official statement on the matter would also be issued by party secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin soon.

Earlier today, Muhyiddin announced his decision to not defend his position as the president during the party's election scheduled to be held next year.

Muhyiddin, who is also the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, said the time for him to let go of the position had come.
