Guan Eng slams Muhyiddin for party presidency U-turn

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng has slammed Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for his U-turn on the party presidency.

Speaking at the DAP Penang's Deepavali open house, Lim had criticised Muhyiddin who had cited his wife's advice as the reason to defend his party presidency.

"If it is your own decision to (make a) U-turn, don't have to quote your wife for this.

"When we chose to retire (from politics), did we say this was because of our wives? No.

"But when he revoked his (earlier) decision and wanted to recontest (the post), he cited his wife.

"This is a useless leader (who) twists (his words), unlike Lim Kit Siang, who retired when he said he wanted to retire. He never cited his wife as a reason behind his retirement."

Yesterday, the Bersatu president had firmly refuted allegations that his recent announcement about not defending his position in the upcoming party poll was a mere gimmick.

This came after Muhyiddin made an about-turn by saying he was defending his post in the next party election a day after saying that he did not want to.

He had earlier announced in his policy speech at the party's annual general assembly that he will not defend his position in the upcoming party elections, which is scheduled for next year.
