PKR VP: Govt must shift focus to fulfil promises

PUTRAJAYA: The administration has spent the last year stabilising the government, and must now focus on fulfilling its promises, said PKR vice-president Chang Lih Kang.

The Science, Technology and Innovation Minister said the party already had a "painful experience" when the government was "illegally" toppled after only being in power for 22 months after the 2018 elections.

"So, we must learn from experience and prioritise stabilising the government first.

"For example, we rent a house and promise our child to install an air-conditioner. We hold on to this promise but when we enter the house, we must make sure it is safe so it would not be broken into.

"We must also make sure there are no leaks in the roof, and after we make sure everything is secure, then we can install the air-conditioner.

"So just like the government, now that we've ensured that it is stable, we can start fulfilling promises."

He said this in his winding-up speech at PKR's National Congress here, today.

Chang said it was unfair for the unity government to be judged in its first year administering the country, and should be given until the end of its term.
