Kemaman by-election: Dr Sam's hectic schedule with current state assembly sitting and by-election campaign

KEMAMAN: The ongoing Terengganu state legislative assembly sitting in Kuala Terengganu till Nov 30 will not jeopardise Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar's campaign for the Kemaman parliamentary seat by-election on Dec 2.

Fondly known as Dr Sam, Ahmad Samsuri has been named by Perikatan Nasional (PN) as its candidate against former military personnel Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor.

Ahmad Samsuri said there are no issues about the state assembly sitting affecting his campaign in Kemaman with less than four days before polling day.

" I will go there (Kemaman) in the evening after the state assembly sitting and campaign till the night before returning (to Kuala Terengganu). I will campaign in the evenings and at night after handling the state government related matters.

"The following day(during the state assembly), I will be present before returning to campaign in Kemaman from evening till night....the by-election campaign will go on as usual," he told reporters.

The Terengganu state assembly sitting which began yesterday (Nov 27) made history as there is no opposition block after PN secured all 32 state seats for the first time during the state polls in August.

Last week, Ahmad Samsuri was seen juggling his time between dealing with floods which affected several areas across the state and travelling to campaign in Kemaman.

He campaigned in Kemaman from the evening onwards while spending the earlier part of the day attending to other state-related matters including visiting flood victims at relief centres.

It was reported last week that when asked about juggling his duties, Ahmad Samsuri did not complain but smiled before replying that he has to manage it.
