Kemaman by-election: Voter turnout reaches 60 per cent at 4pm

KEMAMAN: The voter turnout for the Kemaman parliamentary seat by-election continues to rise, reaching 60 per cent as of 4pm today.

According to the Election Commission (EC), the figures steadily rose from nine per cent at 9am to 18 per cent an hour later, followed by 35 per cent at noon and 48 per cent at 2pm.

Clear skies across the constituency allowed voters to come out in numbers to cast their ballots at the 49 polling centres despite the earlier forecast of rain today.

The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) website reported there would be downpours in the Kemaman district from morning till evening today.

Yesterday, Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh said Kemaman is expected to see a 70 per cent voter turnout.

Perikatan Nasional's Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar is engaged in a straight fight with Barisan Nasional's General (Rtd) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor in Kemaman.
