Ahmad Samsuri thanks voters; Hadi attributes win to people's rejection of unity govt

KUALA LUMPUR: The newly-emerged winner of the Kemaman parliamentary seat by-election Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has thanked those who were involved in the by-election.

In a Facebook post, Samsuri, better known as Dr Sam, said his win was the result of all the supporters' efforts.

"From the bottom of my heart, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone involved in this Kemaman by-election," he wrote.

Samsuri secured 64,998 votes, while Barisan Nasional's General (Rtd) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor bagged 27,778 votes.

The Terengganu Menteri Besar and Pas vice-president won by a 37,220 majority, surpassing the previous majority by 10,041 votes.

Meanwhile, Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang in a post on Facebook said the party's victory with a larger majority was a clear signal of the people's rejection of the Pakatan Harapan-style unity government.

In the post, he congratulated the election machinery that worked wholeheartedly to ensure victory continues to favor Pas and Perikatan Nasional.

"Alhamdulillah, thank you to all the voters for the significant victory in the Kemaman by-election. To Dr Samsuri, a greater responsibility awaits."
