Amizar sworn in as Pelangai assemblyman

KUANTAN: Newly-elected Pelangai assemblyman Datuk Amizar Abu Adam took his oath of office at the 15th Pahang State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

The 50-year-old read and signed the oath of office before Pahang State Legislative Assembly speaker Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin and made his way to his designated seat.

The ceremony took place before the third meeting of the second term of the assembly kicked off at Wisma Sri Pahang here.

Mohd Sharkar congratulated Amizar for winning in Pelangai which is under the Bentong parliamentary constituency, describing the by-election as an important test for the unity government.

Amizar, from Barisan Nasional, won the Pelangai state constituency by-election on Oct 7, which was called following the death of its incumbent Datuk Seri Johari Harun.

The Pelangai state seat fell vacant following Johari's death in a plane crash in Bandar Elmina, Shah Alam, on Aug 17.

Amizar garnered 7,324 votes to defeat Perikatan Nasional's Kasim Samat, who obtained 4,375 votes, while independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasni, only managed 47 votes. He secured a majority of 2,949 votes.
