Cabinet reshuffle shows Zahid still calls the shots, says Khairy

KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently shows Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi still calls the shots within Umno, says Keluar Sekejap duo, Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan.

The once loyalists of Umno referred to the new Cabinet line up as a 'Masterclass' redesignation meant to show Umno members 'who is still the boss'.

"Despite his health issues and a recent surgery, Zahid seems to have displayed his puppeteer skills well, in switching and reassigning Umno ministers to head different ministries," said Khairy.

"Shifting Umno vice president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan from Defence Ministry to Foreign ministry may not seem significant or suspicious at a glance. However, when you think about this redesignation again, (one would know that the decision) indirectly limitsTok Mat's interaction with Umno grassroots, division heads and party members.

They might say it is to give him more international exposure, but believe me he already has the international exposure. It is a good attempt to spin ( the new appointment,)" he said.

Khairy pointed out that the role of Foreign Minister would require Mohamad to spend more time abroad, limiting his interactions with Malaysians.

"As defense minister, he could still engage with the civil and local community visiting military camps and connecting with families of soldiers, locals, and even party members.

"In his new role, who is he going to be engaging abroad?" he added.

Khairy said that Zahid seemed to use the PM's cabinet reshuffle to his advantage, to assert his leadership.

"He is keeping people on their toes by doing all this."
