'Move to boost Rahmah initiative, brainchild of Salahuddin Ayub, must continue'

.

KUALA LUMPUR: After the passing of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, the "Rahmah" initiative that he introduced has seen a decline in interest, hence the need to boost its popularity again.

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Youth representative from Penang, Farouk Abdul Rahman said Salahuddin, who was the domestic trade and cost of living minister, was the epitome of an exemplary administrator.

"We need to promote the "Rahmah" initiative again as the policy reflects 'Rahmatan lil 'Alamin' (mercy to all creation) because since the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin left us, it seems that the policy has died down.

"We need to continue the policy even though he's already left us," he said, addressing more than 100 party representatives at Grand Nexus Ballroom, here today.

Salahuddin, who was Amanah deputy president, died at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, following a brain haemorrage.

His brainchild, "Payung Rahmah", was introduced as a remedial measure for the high cost of living faced by the lower-income group and the hardcore poor.

Meanwhile, Amanah Youth Selangor representative, Mirzan Majid, said the party wing needs a paradigm shift in terms of mentality as it now belongs in the ruling coalition.

"Amanah Youth members must have 'government mentality', no longer just loud in voicing criticism but also coming up with ideas and solutions," he said.

Party election is expected to be held later tonight.
