Sedar pledges support for current governments, eyes expansion in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Sedar Rakyat (Sedar) announced its unwavering support for the existing governments at both the state and federal levels.

The party, led by president Datuk Othman Abdillah, cited political stability, investment, education development and the well-being of the people as the key factors influencing their decision.

He said there was a need to allow Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to assume the role of Prime Minister and urged against disturbances to avoid potential turmoil.

"We give them four years (before the parliamentary term ends), then we fight (against them in the election)," he said in a recent press conference held after the inaugural general meeting at the Sabah International Convention Centre.

He said Sedar Sabah, the local branch of the party, currently boasts approximately 10,000 members, with plans to increase this number to 100,000 by the year's end.

Additionally, the party aims to contest in all 73 state seats in the upcoming state election.

Addressing concerns of further division in Sabah's political landscape, Othman acknowledged the existing fragmentation but stressed the importance of finding the best party without corruption.

"With or without a new party, Sabah is already divided. People just have to find the best party without corruption.

"For our party, it is more self-funding and we are open to donations from the public."

Present at the press conference was Sedar Sabah liaison chairperson Ariffin Willie Mohamad.
