Opposition would not agree to test PM's support in Dewan Rakyat, says Umno man

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said the opposition would not agree to test the support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Dewan Rakyat.

He said this is because it would expose Perikatan Nasional (PN) which actually does not have sufficient support.

"There are lawyers who proposed that the majority for Anwar is best tested in the Dewan Rakyat. The opposition would definitely not agree to this.

"Their aim is to weaken the government through perception, hype and provocation. In actual fact, the number for PN is declining because seven or eight Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) members of Parliament will announce fheir support for the prime minister.

"That is why PN did not dare to ask for a split vote when Budget 2024 was approved. They are so full of talk," said Puad in a post on his Facebook page.

Last week, Bukit Gantang member of Parliament Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal said that eight Bersatu MPs are waiting for Parliament to reconvene to declare their support for Anwar.

He said they were taking the 'wait and see' approach and were waiting for the right time.
