Fahmi: Cabinet didn't discuss PN's shadow cabinet [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil today said the unity government did not discuss the opposition's shadow cabinet.

Arguments presented in Parliament, he said, were the true measure of effectiveness.

He urged Perikatan Nasional (PN) members of parliament to ensure checks and balances through parliamentary committees.

On Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan shadowing his role, Fahmi said: "This idea of a shadow cabinet is nothing new and as I mentioned, we already have the best platform, which is via Parliament.

"However, for my ministry, we will take into consideration issues raised by the opposition.

"But there is no special attention given to Wan Saiful or any other politician," he said at a news conference.

On Feb 8, PN announced its shadow cabinet, but stopped short of appointing a shadow prime minister.

Its secretary-general, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, said the question of PN's pick for prime minister should not arise since Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was chairman of the pact.
