MCA president hopes Dewan Rakyat proceedings to continue to prioritise people's agenda

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has expressed hopes for the Dewan Rakyat proceedings to continue prioritising agendas related to the people's wellbeing.

In a Facebook post today, Wee, who is also Ayer Hitam member of parliament also hoped that the proceedings would proceed smoothly.

"History was created today with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia officiating the opening ceremony of the First Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament.

"Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia also graced the ceremony with her attendance.

"May the coming Dewan Rakyat proceedings run smoothly and will continue to prioritise the people's agenda," he said.

Earlier, Sultan Ibrahim King of Malaysia graced the opening ceremony of the First Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament. (Reference: https://www.nst.com.my/amp/news/nation/2024/02/1017849/sultan-ibrahim-gr...)

This is His Majesty's first time opening the Dewan Rakyat since being appointed as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong in January, this year.

His Majesty's arrival was welcomed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, both Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul as well as Dewan Negara President Datuk Mutang Tagal.

The third session of the 15th Parliament commenced today and will run until March 27.

The 19-day session which was graced by Sultan Ibrahim will be continued with debate among the MPs on the second day.

Other matters expected to take centre stage during the session include the economic issues, particularly the falling ringgit and rising cost of living.
