Waves' alone won't take Perikatan Nasional far, says sec-gen Hamzah

KUALA LUMPUR: The people will punish Perikatan Nasional (PN) if it fails to listen to them, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

The coalition must find and build its own strength and identity, instead of relying on "waves" to reclaim Putrajaya, he told the PN MPs and Assemblymen Convention.

"Have we truly become champions who amplify the people's voices? Have we truly empathised and listened to their concerns?" the PN secretary-general asked.

"These are questions we must ask ourselves and answer honestly. Don't ever assume that the voters will always be with us.

"Yes, in the 15th General Election there was an extraordinary wave. But we must remember that waves have tides.

"As a party, we must have our own strength to convince the people and not rely only on waves. If not, we will be punished."

He added that PN must also understand sentiments, "read the ground" accordingly and do a comprehensive analysis and determine the strategies that should be used to gain voter support.

"Right now there are too many issues. The main one is the cost of living... we have to do a comprehensive analysis and determine which strategy to use."
