KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chairman Datuk Dr Sangkar Rasam will not step down, despite calls for his resignation.

"I want to emphasise that I will continue to fulfill the mandate given by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with full responsibility and integrity.

"Therefore, I will not deviate from my duty to ensure that the PKR continues to serve for the progress and prosperity of Sabah," he said in a statement.

Yesterday,15 out of 26 PKR division chiefs had called Sangkar to quit his position as he had failed to lead the state party.

Referring to the statement, Sangkar said the spokesperson Sazalye Donol who is also Kota Marudu spokesperson has made unfounded allegations that do not reflect the true views of the grassroots of Sabah PKR.

"He has maliciously accused me of not organising leadership empowerment programmes since being appointed as State Chairman in 2022.

"This is completely untrue because over the past year, the party programmes I have organised have been attended by members from all corners of Sabah and often by representatives of the Prime Minister's office themselves.

"His allegations not only embarrass PKR but also hinder the party's work in preparing for the upcoming Sabah state elections.

"We must continue to unite in focusing on the agenda of development and the welfare of the people of Sabah, not engage in internal turmoil that only wastes the time of those sincerely working for the party."

Sangkar added that the party machinery is currently on standby for the upcoming state elections.

He also said he would help to secure additional victories for PKR in the State Legislative Assembly, thus maintaining its crucial role in steering the state government.

"I call on all parties to prioritise the interests of the people over personal interests so that we can continue to cooperate in strengthening the integrity of the Sabah PKR."
