BN backing unity govt candidate, says Fahmi on MCA's refusal to help in KKB

KOTA KINABALU: Barisan Nasional (BN) has given its commitment to backing the unity government's candidate in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election, says Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi, the PKR information chief, said the party will work with all parties who are part of the unity government in the May 11 by-election.

He was asked to comment MCA's decision against helping non-BN candidates campaign in the by-election.

Fahmi, who is also the unity government spokesman, said BN, in which MCA is a component party, is part of the unity government.

"BN has said that as it is part of the unity coalition, they will be together (support) the unity government's candidate.

"So as far as PKR is concerned, we will work together with all parties (in the unity government)," he told reporters after a meeting with Sabah PKR leaders here.

Earlier, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim chaired a meeting with Sabah PKR division chiefs.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election was triggered by the passing of its incumbent. Lee Kee Hiong on March 21.

Lee, 58, who had been the Kuala Kubu Baharu assemblyman under the Hulu Selangor Parliamentary constituency since 2013, died after battling cancer in the past few years.
