KKB by-election: Final early voting turnout in KKB reaches 97 pct

KUALA KUBU BAHARU: The final turnout for early voting in Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election today reached 97 per cent.

In a statement today, Election Commission (EC) secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak said the early voting involved 769 police and military personnel alongside their spouses.

"The turnout for early voting for Kuala Kubu Baharu reached 97 per cent.

"EC congratulates and commends the returning officer as well as the team for carrying out their duties well today.

"We also thank the police, armed forces, local authorities, Information Department, media practitioners and all parties involved for their cooperation and support given to EC."

Earlier today, police and military personnel cast their ballots at two voting centres, Maktab Polis Diraja Malaysia and the Fourth Infantry Division Regiment in Kuala Kubu Baharu from 8am until 5pm.

The by-election taking place on May 11 will see a four-corner fight against Pakatan Harapan's Pang Sock Tao, Perikatan Nasional's Khairul Azhari Saut, Parti Rakyat Malaysia's Hafizah Zainuddin, and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

The by-election was triggered by the passing of its three-term assemblyman from DAP, Lee Kee Hiong, who battled with cancer.

In the Selangor state election last year, Lee helped DAP, a component party of PH, to retain Kuala Kubu Baharu after she polled a majority of 4,119 votes in a four-cornered fight at the state seat.

Kuala Kubu Baharu is a mixed seat, with Malays comprising 50 per cent of the electorate, followed by Chinese (30 per cent) and Indians (18 per cent).
