High percentage of early voting turnout a positive sign - PN candidate

KUALA KUBU BAHARU: Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Khairul Azhari Saut described the high percentage of early voting turnout on Tuesday as a positive sign.

He also said that the support for PN throughout the 12-day campaign period has increased, leading to confidence that the momentum can be sustained until polling day on Saturday.

"I received information at the Fourth Infantry Division Regiment that the voter turnout was 100 per cent.

"The slightly lower turnout of 97 per cent was recorded at the Royal Malaysia Police College," he said.

The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday announced that the final turnout for early voting in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election reached 97 percent, involving 769 police and military personnel alongside their spouses.

Khairul added that among the reasons some did not vote include individuals who have passed away, those who are ill and those who are bedridden, among others.

"The percentage is a positive sign, especially for PN. So far, the support for PN, particularly for me, has been increasing.

"In fact, I know with many people in this area. God willing, this momentum is giving me high confidence until Friday, at midnight," he said.

Asked about his campaign that was said being too focus on issues involving Malay voters compared to other races, Khairul denied that his campaign leaned towards only one race.

Instead, he explained that PN focuses on national issues affecting all citizens, such as economic and the high cost of living, which burden the people.

"We know that national issues are not confined to specific areas but encompass the entire country, regardless of whether there is a by-election or not.

"Therefore, we must unite to express to the current government that the current situation is difficult for the people.

"It just so happens that we have a by-election now, so our voices are being heard more so that the government can assess this matter," he said.

He also disagree with those who said that PN played on racial sentiments.

"For us, we know that when Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was the prime minister, all races, regardless of ethnicity, religion, skin color, or political beliefs, were given necessary assistance," he said.
