Reason why I, a Malaysian, would vote for Trump

A COLD wind is blowing in from the hills yonder this Saturday morning. I shiver a little in the gulley where a drizzle has produced a stream draining into nowhere.

Many Americans must be shivering and shuddering, too, wondering who --- Biden or Trump --- will get the electoral college vote and run the country into the ground or take it into the stratosphere.

And they are wondering, too, whether the election's outcome will be decided on Nov 3 by them, or sometime later by the conservative-leaning Supreme Court.

You and I can only guess. And maybe tell a story or two about our favoured candidate. No conservative preacher or priest of liberalism (and I don't literally mean a man of the cloth) shall sway us one way or the other.

Who do I fall in with?

Why, Trump, of course. Here are four reasons why. But they are not in order of importance, mind you. Neither do they tell the whole story, not of his "great" economic accomplishments nor his "stupendous" diplomatic victories.

1. He is unencumbered by rules of civility, he is more than frank about what he thinks of some others.

Cheatin' Obama, Monster Kamala, Crazy Hillary, Sleepy Creepy Joe… the list may seem endless, the names horrendous.

But they must be honest expressions of his thoughts. He is not the only one in the political universe with such an impressive verbal armoury, but he must be the leader of the pack.

2. He loves to demonstrate his belief in the divine.

What a great thing it is to have a president who waves the Bible. I am sure he knows much more about the good book than he lets on. Really.

Some say he is a flawed man used by God. Like a Benjamite named King Saul.

3. He knows how to get rid of people fairly quickly.

Look at how many have walked in and run out of the White House in the past four years. One after another resigned or was rejected (depending on whose version you think adheres to the truth). They could not meet the expectations nor cope with the extremes of the preeminent business guru.

4. He knows how to pay the least taxes.

The New York Times report on this is, well, incredible. It says "[h]is reports to the IRS portray a businessman who takes in hundreds of millions of dollars a year yet racks up chronic losses that he aggressively employs to avoid paying taxes".

He is a financially astute man of commerce. Others have done the same clever deed with regard to taxes. Why find fault with the man who wants to make America great again?

There you have it. Hew to my view, if you wish. Or pooh-pooh it, if it pleases you.

I would not support Biden. And as surely as the sun rises in the east, my vote shall go to Donald Trump. But only if I happen to live in a world where vice is good, and virtue meaningless.

Fortunately, the cool hills of Jenaris and much of the world are not such a ghastly place. Not yet. Never, we pray.
