E-hailing services greatly reduce traffic congestion

SINCE Uber and Grab Car were legalised, they have transported more than 10,000 passengers in the Klang Valley.

Taking Grab Car and Uber is one way to ease traffic congestion.

The use of more than one mode of transport is called integrated transport system. Urban commuters benefit from MRT, LRT, buses and ride-hailing services.

Some places in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor cannot be accessed by LRT, MRT and buses.

Therefore, Grab Car and Uber fulfil the travel demands of people whose workplaces and homes are inaccessible via rail services.

Besides offering low fares, Grab Car and Uber also provide convenience and privacy to passengers.

“Feel it like your own car” is one of the taglines that attract passengers to take Grab Car and Uber.

As trips can be booked via applications, passengers can be anywhere at anytime. Hence, it motivates more people to travel via e-hailing services and reduces the number of cars on roads.

Grab Car’s promotions, which offer discounted fares through promo codes, is one of the attractions of the service.

If Grab Car and Uber make up 45 per cent of 8,000 vehicles in Klang Valley roads every day, with each driver taking two passengers (Grabshare), e-hailing services could remove 7,200 vehicles from roads.

As a regular Grab Car user, I believe e-hailing services can reduce traffic congestion.
