MANY countries have banned the use of plastic bags, but is it enough to help save the earth?
Consumers believe that they have contributed enough by not using plastic bags.
We do not realise that there are other packaging products in our shopping carts that are made of plastic.
Food and drink packaging is made from plastic film and plastic bottles, which are just as bad as plastic bags. We should ban those products too.
Although it is an important step in protecting the environment, it is sad that the ban on plastic bags has done little to improve our environment.
Recently, students from the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies of Universiti Teknologi Mara launched a recycling initiative called “RecyCash”. A new application called MYReturns was also launched to make recycling easier.
By downloading this application, users can directly contact agents to collect their recycled items.
RecyCash encourages people to recycle by providing rewards. This initiative motivates people to make recycling a habit.
To save the earth, we need to do more than just banning plastic bags.
