Get tough with errant heavy vehicle drivers

MISHAPS involving speeding heavy vehicles have caused a great number of accidents on our roads and many have lost their lives. Needless deaths, agony and misery are the consequences when heavy vehicle drivers do not follow the speed limit!

The mangled and twisted wreckage of the vehicles indicate high-speed collisions. Heavy vehicles speeding beyond the permitted speeds on the highway must be checked.

The permitted speed of a bus and lorry is 90kph but many of these vehicles travel at 110kph and beyond on the highways.

The drivers of these heavy vehicles drive at top speeds oblivious to the roads signs.

Some heavy vehicles cruise on the fast lane of the highway which is out of bounds for heavy vehicles.

Some heavy vehicle drivers become road bullies and tailgate cars in the middle lane and intimidate drivers by flashing their lights to give them right of way. Others blare their horns and hover close to the cars, from left to right, to show their anger.

We need to put a stop to the needless deaths on our highways and roads due to these speeding heavy vehicles.

Strict enforcement is needed. Make sure that heavy vehicles stick to their speed limit that is plastered across on the back of their vehicles.

Nab the offenders! Revoke their licences, summon and fine them.

Revive the signal lights that were placed on top of the heavy vehicles that flash when the heavy vehicles speed beyond their limit.

The heavy vehicle drivers will be more alert and responsible with these check and balance measures.

How many more casualties do we need to see before we put an end to needless deaths?
