MPs must empathise with people's plight

LETTERS: Just when we thought members of parliament had put their politicking on the back burner to concentrate on pressing issues, we see them bickering over inconsequential matters.

Early this week, opposition MPs went on a tirade against the Dewan Rakyat speaker for refusing their motion to debate a matter that had no relevance.

We thought we had seen the end of politicking, at least temporarily, until all MPs put their shoulders to the wheel and find solutions to people's woes.

But no. To them, their interest comes first. The constituents who voted them in can wait. There is a time and place to bring up issues not related to the pandemic, and now is not that time.

People have appealed, time and again, to MPs to prioritise their immediate concerns, many of whom are without jobs and income.

Yet, MPs, who are remunerated by taxes paid by the people, seem to be going off on a tangent.

Therefore, please recalibrate yourselves. If you are not in the shoes of the proletariat, please don't stand in their way. Instead, expend your time and energies to improve the lot of your constituents.

What does it matter to them if the speaker has accepted or rejected their motion?
