Give due recognition to building surveyors

LETTERS: The building surveyor profession in Malaysia faces challenges that have affected its growth and recognition.

One challenge is the low level of awareness and understanding of the role of building surveyors in the construction industry.

Another challenge is the lack of regulation and standardisation in the construction industry.

While building codes and regulations exist in Malaysia, they are not always enforced. There is a
lack of standardisation in the building inspection and certification process.

This can make it difficult to establish the role of building surveyors in the construction industry and to ensure that their recommendations are followed.

Another issue is the growing interest in sustainable and environmentally friendly buildings.

Building surveyors can play a
significant role in ensuring that buildings are designed and constructed with sustainable practices and environmentally friendly materials.

This presents an opportunity for building surveyors to expand their role and establish themselves as experts in sustainable building design and construction.

As the number of buildings increases, so does the need for building surveyors to ensure its safety, quality and performance.

Building surveyors can help prevent building failures and accidents by identifying and addressing defects and deficiencies in buildings.

In addition, recognising the importance of building surveyors would provide a pathway for professional development and career progression for those interested in this field.

This recognition would provide an opportunity for those
interested in pursuing a career in this field and receive training and education.
