Molotov cocktail attack should be condemned

LETTERS: Beruas member of parliament Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham made a serious error in suggesting non-Muslims should be appointed to a proposed committee to study conflicts between syariah law and the Constitution.

He later withdrew his suggestion and apologised.

As a wakil rakyat, he should be more careful when commenting on issues about religion, race and royalty.

That, however, does not warrant a Molotov cocktail attack on his home. Violence begets violence and peace begets peace.

Violence is an uncivilised and barbaric act of perpetrators who will tarnish the image of the majority of people, who are peace loving and do not support nor accept such heinous acts.

Malaysia is a multiracial country with diversity as its strength.

Leaders from both sides of the political divide must condemn this arson act so that future generations will learn from this.

If they remain silent, it may be taken as an approval by those who do not condemn the incident.

Issues and problems must be dealt with through consultation and dialogue, not through violence.

There are countries which have taken the path of violence and ended up being destroyed. Malaysians should not try or attempt to gain political mileage by violence.
