Parking apps deterring domestic tourism

LETTERS: An unfriendly measure introduced by city halls and municipal councils is the use of apps to pay for parking.

Parking meters had to be phased out because they could be tampered with.

But each town or city requires different parking apps, and many senior citizens are not fond of having online accounts and using digital transactions.

I used to like to drive and explore other cities and towns, patronise restaurants and eateries to sample local food, and shop at traditional businesses in old shophouses to lend support and listen to vendors' stories.

Today, not only are the roads congested, but it is difficult to find parking spots, and it is also a hassle to download parking apps.

Unknowingly, the authorities have deterred motorists from visiting their cities and towns, which will affect domestic tourism, as shopping, petrol, and food and beverage are the three biggest revenue sectors.
