Israel unlikely to follow ceasefire decision

LETTERS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim asking in Germany, "where is our humanity?" over the West's hypocrisy on Gaza continues to resonate as Israel keeps pummelling the Palestinian enclave and attacking Lebanon.

Even United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres' recent visit to Egypt to survey the humanitarian situation did not deter Israel from bombarding Gaza.

It was surreal to read about planes from the United States, Egypt, Germany and Singapore parachuting relief supplies, and then hear about Israeli planes dropping bombs.

A news agency reported Guterres calling for an end to the "non-stop nightmare" endured by Gaza's 2.4 million people in the territory's worst-ever war.

"Looking at Gaza, it almost appears that the four horsemen of war, famine, conquest and death are galloping across it. The whole world recognises that it's past time to silence the guns and ensure an immediate humanitarian ceasefire," he said.

I disagree with a wire agency's description that this is Gaza's worst-ever war. This is the worst-ever war waged by Israel against a near defence-less people facing famine due to the Zionist regime blocking aid into the territory.

Israel's conduct mirrors Nazi Germany's abuse against the Jews. The difference is, the world is witnessing the Zionist brutality "live". As that has been going on for over five months, this might just be the reason for the US abstaining from voting on the latest ceasefire resolution at the United Nations.

However, the resolution is unlikely to force Israel to stop attacking Palestinians, as the US, according to reports, insists that they have not shifted a policy which is to help the Zionist regime politically, economically and militarily.
