Make online teaching, learning a permanent feature

LETTERS: We cannot expose our students to harm and injury in their quest for knowledge.

Recently, there were reports of overcrowded classrooms, and concerns about the effect of the warm weather on children.

Early last year, several schoolchildren were injured when the jetty they used to board a boat to school suddenly collapsed.

Insisting on children to go to school under such conditions is unwise.

Thus, we should implement online teaching and learning as much as we can.

Online teaching and learning can reduce students' financial burden as less money will be spent on transport, stationary and meals.

University students will also benefit in terms of course material accessibility, flexible scheduling, more academic options, and the opportunity to build valuable skills.

The Education Ministry and Higher Education Ministry should draft a comprehensive plan to make online teaching and learning a permanent feature in our education system.

Our teachers, lecturers and students in schools and universities need to be given the facilities and training to make online teaching and learning

permanent.
