Blooms to increase curb appeal

LOOKING to sell your property? you can increase your home’s curb appeal with attractive and well-maintained landscape.

Potential buyers most often form their first impression of a home from its curb appeal.

Some experts say attractive landscape could add as much as 10 per cent to a home’s value — but be sure to have the right plants or trees.

Ideally, you should start preparing your home for sale at least three months before you show it to potential buyers. This should give you ample time to make sure everything is right and neat, both outside and inside of your property.

If you need to add flowering plants, within three months they should start to blossom. If you need to re-plant the grass, by the third month they would be nice and green.

But do you know what are the best plants to enhance the value of your home?

According to an article in Daily Mail, the answer is not necessarily the ones you’d think.

Based on research, a plant that is likely to put house-hunters off is wisteria as it is too much hassle to maintain.

A pretty wisteria-clad house used to be regarded as the ultimate in desirable residences.

The article also stated that hedges, as a rule, are preferable to bare fences and walls. However, too large a hedge in front of a house can create a fortress-like impression.

It also says clematis does well, as does climbing hydrangea and honeysuckle.

Meanwhile, while you spend long hours trying to beautify your garden to attract buyers, bear in mind that the new owners may not necessarily want lavish gardens are too hard and expensive to maintain.

Try trees, shrubs or flowering plants that are easy to maintain and not too costly to keep.

Roses, hibiscus, bougainvillea, begonia, West Indian jasmine, hydrangea, jasmine and chrysanthemums are some good options.
