Alya KL: One of the most luxurious golf resorts

ALYA Kuala Lumpur (Alya KL), which combines its unique 145.69ha natural setting with strategic architecture and spaces, is probably one of the most luxurious golf resort developments in Malaysia.

The development underscores Sime Darby Property Bhd’s continuing contribution to the growth and development of Greater Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley to be the top 20 most liveable global metropolis by 2020.

Alya KL is adjacent to the 99.14ha Bukit Kiara public park and surrounded by Kuala Lumpur’s most affluent western suburbs within a 15km radius. These elite suburbs are complemented with international schools, specialist centres, retail malls, food and beverage outlets, as well as commercial and healthcare centres.

Formerly known as the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club resort (KLGCC Resort), the premier integrated project has a gross development value of over RM8 billion.

There are eight development parcels spanning 24.7ha covering residential (bungalows, courtyard villas, serviced apartments, strata condominiums), offices, retail and premier recreational venues.

The first completed parcel is East Residence, a gated-and-guarded community of low-density luxurious courtyard villas (112 units) and 15 residential suites, ranging from 4,442 to 5,488 sq ft.

The second parcel is Senada Residences, comprising two towers with 429 units of serviced apartments priced between RM1,100 and RM1,200 per sq ft (psf) , as well as offices and retail spaces.

Parcel 3 is Jendela, comprising three serviced apartment towers with units ranging from 807 to 4,628 sq ft plush penthouses, and retail space.

The rest of the Alya KL master development covers TPC Kuala Lumpur’s (TPC KL) two 18-hole championship golf courses, the Par 71 East and Par 72 West Courses, and a clubhouse.

Originally opened in 1991, the two golf courses have undergone a total redesign. The revamped West Course reopened in 2009 and the East Course in 2010.

After almost a decade since its last renovation, the West Course was taken through an upgrading exercises and reopened on August 31 this year.

“The 10-month intensive project was focused on providing improved playing surfaces by changing the turf on the course to more developed and enhanced grass species. Golfers can expect another level of golfing experience with the new resurfaced turf,” TPC KL chief executive officer Steven Thielke said in a statement. He said the new grasses are identical to those at TPC Sawgrass, home to The Players Championship, which is the PGA TOUR’s annual flagship tournament in the United States.

Whilst TifEagle Bermuda grass has been planted on the greens to provide a consistently fast and true putting surface, Celebration Bermuda grass has been planted on all the tee boxes and fairways, as well as bunker and green surrounds.

“The new fairways will now have more run, and the new green surrounds can be mown short to provide run-off areas so as to allow for a variety of recovery shots to be played on a firmer playing surface,” said Thielke.

TPC KL was formerly KLGCC. The rebranding followed Sime Darby Property’s concurrent rebranding of KLGCC Resort to Alya KL.
