BCorp to bring the Four Seasons brand to Yokohama, Japan

Berjaya Corp Bhd (BCorp) will undertake a property development project in Yokohama, Japan that may feature the Four Seasons brand.

The project will also comprise a luxury hotel-condominium, aquarium, and retail outlets, BCorp said in a statement.

BMD62, formed by BCorp was announced as the winning bidder by the City of Yokohama to develop the properties on 22,188.34 square metres of land located in Nishi District.

BCorp said that as the controlling stakeholder, it will enter into a joint venture with Marubeni Corporation and Daiwa House Industry Co., Ltd, to develop the properties.

The group's executive chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan said it has obtained an exclusivity via a Letter of Intent to bring in global luxury hotel brand, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, to manage the hotel.

The project is expected to bring in excitement and vibrancy to the City of Yokohama, he said.

"The restaurants and shops that are to be opened by the waterfront are considered very rare in the City of Yokohama. There are also not many projects in the nearby areas that have a luxury hotel and aquarium as an entertainment facility," he said.

Yokohama is the second-largest city in Japan by population and the most populous municipality of Japan.

Tan said he expects this project with the luxury class hotel, aquarium integrating the latest digital technology, and real marine life will bring further energy and prosperity to Yokohama.

He said with the prestigious Four Seasons branding and management, along with its strategic location in Yokohama it will add value to the project.

The project in Yokohama is similar to BCorp's Four Seasons Hotel & Hotel Residences in Kyoto (Japan), said Tan.

Also in Japan, the BCorp group is developing a Four Seasons Hotel in Okinawa.

Tan expects the construction for Four Seasons Okinawa to commence by the end of this year whilst for the Four Seasons Hotel in Yokohama, it is targeted to start by-end 2022.
