More GBI projects for Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR: The certification of buildings under the Green Building Index (GBI), Malaysia's green rating tool for buildings and townships, is one of the green initiatives Sarawak is actively undertaking, said Associate Prof. (Ind.) Ar. Sarly Adre Sarkum, the chairman of the GBI Board.

He said that Sarawak has been very resolute in advancing the green and sustainability agenda.

With this, he said, GBI is reaffirming its dedication to encouraging green and sustainable development in the state's building and construction sector.

GBI took part in the most recent Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers' Association (SHEDA) Property Expo 2023 to broaden its reach and bolster its presence in Sarawak.

The property expo participation by GBI, according to Sarly, is a part of the company's ongoing efforts to support the state government's green and sustainability programmes.

There are currently 29 GBI projects registered in Sarawak, and 18 of those initiatives have received certification.

Some of the notable GBI-certified projects are the Sarawak Museum Campus and Heritage Trail, Tabung Haji Complex & Convention Hall, Tabung Haji Hotel, UNIFOR Complex, LCDA Tower, Menara SEDC, University of Technology Sarawak, Ibraco & LHS Headquarters, HSL Tower, La Promenade Mall, Miri City Hall, Integrated Energy Hub, Wisma Kalulong, Tegas Digital Village, DCF-DCCI Complex, UNIMAS Student Pavilion, and UCSI Hotel.

"By integrating sustainable principles into the fabric of Sarawak's built environment, GBI is actively complementing the Sarawak government's efforts to transform the state into a hub of sustainable development," Sarly said.

GBI has certified more than 650 building projects countrywide totaling 296.8 million square feet of gross floor area since its founding in 2009.

These include initiatives by ministries and agencies of the federal and state governments, local and international companies, public and private universities, and private households.
