Shuttler Kisona beats teammate Ying Ying to win Malaysia International Series

PUTRAJAYA: National shuttler S. Kisona bagged her third title of the year when she came out tops here on Sunday in the women's singles final of the Malaysia International Series.

The 19-year-old reigning natinal Under-21 champion upset top seed and national teammate Lee Ying Ying 16-21, 21-15, 21-17.

Kisona, who also won the Victor International Series in May is now hoping to break into the world top 50 by the end of the year.

"To be honest my preparation for this tournament was not great, so I am very happy to win my second international title this year.

"I still have a lot to improve on and now under the guidance of coach Tey Seu Bock and Rony (Agustinus), I hope to become better.

"I have been struggling with injuries so my main goal is to strengthened my legs. I want to be a more complete player and break into the world top 50 by the end of the year," said Kisona who underwent knee surgery in 2014.

Meanwhile, in the women's doubles, Soong Fie Cho-Tee Jing Yi claimed their second title this season with a 21-16, 21-17 win over Thailand's Kittipak Dubthuk-Natcha Saengchote in the final.

Fie Cho-Jing Yi who were only paired this year, also won the Victor International Series.

In the men's singles, 11th seed Cheam June Wei failed to get the better of Singaporean Loh Kean Yew, losing 21-19, 21-14 in 33 minutes.
