KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian mixed doubles Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See continued their impressive run when they reached their maiden Super Series semi-final at the Korea Open on Friday.
In the quarter-finals, Peng Soon-Yee See saw off South Korea's Seo Seung Jae-Kim Ha Na 13-21, 21-10, 21-18.
On Thursday, the Malaysian duo, who were only paired in May, upset second seeds Chris and Gabrielle Adcock of England in the second round.
"It's definitely a great win for us because we had never expected to come this far in the competition. We did not play well in the first game, but thankfully, we managed to compose ourselves and play a much better game in the second and deciding game," said Peng Soon when contacted in Seoul.
"Hopefully, we get to play well again in the semi-finals and reach the last stage."
The Malaysians, who bagged the Russian Open title in June, will face the winner of the match between China's Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping and Japan's Yuki Kaneko-Koharu Yonemoto next in the last four stage on Saturday.
Peng Soon, added that both pairs have got their unique style of play and it would be a tough match, regardless of who they face.
"To me, any pair that can come this far are equally strong. Of course, the China duo are favourites to win, but we will focus more on our own preparation and be ready to face anybody."
Another Malaysian pair – Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie – were, however, not as lucky as they went down 18-21, 21-13, 21-18 to Germany's Marvin Emil Seidel-Linda Efler in the quarter-finals.
