Math teacher schools young teammate at Para KL2017

KUALA LUMPUR: Former world champion Didin Taresoh handed teammate Muhammad Naim Ahmad Halmi a masterclass para badminton in the men's singles SS6 (short stature) category final at the Kuala Lumpur Asean Para Games (Para KL2017) today.

Didin, a math teacher a SK Bongkud Ranau, Sabah, eased to straights sets 21-1, 24-22 win over Naim, 17, at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.

The former All-England champion said Naim still has a lot to learn if he is to challenge for honours at the world level.

"To be honest, I had expected to win easily as Naim is still young and lacks experience," said the 42-year-old.

"I wanted to show him that he still has a long way to go and has much to learn in the sport. He has to train very hard if he wants to be successful at the international level.

"I eased up in the second set so the fans would not feel disappointed having come all the way to watch the match."

Didin, however, disclosed that he has not set any lofty targets for himself at the World Championships in Busan, South Korea on Nov 23.

"I have not set any targets as I have not competed in any international competitions (besides Para KL2017) this year. It is tough for me to gauge how strong the players are this season."

Didin dedicated his gold medal to his family, as well as his school and students who have been very supportive of him.
