KUALA LUMPUR: After 15-years of serving the BA of Malaysia (BAM) as national coach, Jeremy Gan has finally called it quits.
The 38-year-old former international, tendered his resignation on Saturday, and will serve his three-month notice till the end of the year.
The men's doubles coach - best known for guiding Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games silver medal - when contacted said: "Maybe it's time for me to move on in search of new knowledge and experience.
"I have been with the national body as coach for 15 years, it's time to take a break."
Jeremy's resignation comes as a sudden blow, as just a fortnight ago, BAM shocked the badminton fraternity with the resignation of Morten Frost as technical director.
When asked if it had anything to do with the recent structural revamp, Jeremy reiterated: "I guess I want to try something new."
In June, BAM introduced a new coaching structure, spearheaded by five head coaches.
Cheah Soon Kit, who was previously in charge of the men's doubles back up squad was promoted while V Shem-Wee Kiong were recently split for good, after suffering a dip in form.
BAM president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria, who made the announcement after chairing the council meeting at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara said: "No one is indispensable and he has his own reason.
"The current structure is led by head coaches, and each head coach must have their assistants to work together to fulfill their targets and objectives.
"This (Jeremy's resignation) is all part and parcel of this new transformation. As I have said before, no one is bigger than the institution."
Following Jeremy's decision to leave, the men's doubles department will have to make do with Soon Kit and Rosman Razak for now.
