Jin Wei wants to focus on career next year

KUALA LUMPUR: Former world junior champion Goh Jin Wei can now solely focus on her badminton career after completing her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations recently.

The 17-year-old wants to prepare well for several big assignments next season, which include the Uber Cup qualifiers.

Jin Wei rated her performance this year as satisfactory.

Her biggest success was winning the women’s singles gold medal at the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games in August.

“I have several targets to achieve next year. Frankly, I was slightly distracted this year as I needed to prepare for my SPM exams,” said Jin Wei at the National Badminton Academy in Bukit Kiara on Tuesday.

She will resume next season starting with the Thailand Masters and Malaysia Masters, both in January.

"I will also compete in the Uber Cup qualifiers (Feb 6-11) and maybe the All England (March 14-18),” said Jin Wei, a Pure Science stream student.

Jin Wei hopes to further her studies and also continue playing for Malaysia.
