V Shem-Wee Kiong face world champions in Malaysia Masters quarter-finals

KUALA LUMPUR: Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong regard the quarter-final showdown against reigning world champions Liu Chen-Zhang Nan of China in Friday’s Malaysia Masters quarter-finals as their biggest test since reuniting as a pair.

On Thursday, the Malaysians saw off compatriots Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi 21-17, 21-17 in the second round at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil while the World No 4 Chinese pair defeated Japan's Hiroyuki Endo-Yuta Watanabe 21-11, 21-13.

"We've played them (Liu Chen-Zhang Nan) a couple of times before our separation last year. It will surely be our toughest match, but we are ready to bring out our best," said Wee Kiong.

V Shem said he and his partner are getting better after each match.

"Our combination and understanding have improved. Hopefully, we can maintain this form and do well this year," V Shem added.

The ongoing Malaysia Masters is V Shem-Wee Kiong's second tournament this season following the Thailand Masters last week.

In Bangkok, V Shem-Wee Kiong reached the semi-finals before going down to Thai pair Tinn Isriyanet-Kittisak Namdash.
