Iskandar crashes out of India Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Men's singles shuttler Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin's impressive run at the India Open came to an end in the semi-finals on Saturday.

The 27-year-old, who on Thursday stunned World No 3 K. Srikanth of India, could not repeat his heroics against fourth seed Shi Yuqi of China as the Malaysian lost 18-21, 21-10, 21-19 in 69 minutes in New Delhi.

Shi Yuqi faces Taiwan's Chou Tien Chen for the title on Sunday.

Tien Chen defeated China's Qiao Bin 23-21, 21-16 in the other last-four match

Iskandar, who is slowly making a comeback from a back injury last year, can hold his head up high as it is one of his best performances so far since winning the Malaysia International Challenge late last year.

The Johor-born shuttler's good showing also bodes well for the national men's team who will compete at the Asia Team Championships, which starts on Tuesday, in Alor Star.
