Wei Feng feels 'heart broken' after missing China Masters final

KUALA LUMPUR: Former national shuttler Chong Wei Feng just wants to enjoy the game — in the remaining years he has in the sport.

On Saturday, the 31-year-old independent player failed to reach the final of the China Masters in Lingshui, when he lost 21-17, 16-21, 23-21 to Taiwan's Lin Yu Hsien in the last four.

Following Wei Feng's exit, Malaysia's interest in the competition also came to an end.

Wei Feng, who left the BA of Malaysia in 2016, said: "I am a little heart broken, because it was really close, but that's okay.

"I knew that whoever played better with the right tactics, was going to win this match.

"Honestly, I am just enjoying myself right now. My goal is to get more positive results. I also want to prove that at this age, I am still capable of bringing the game to younger players."

Still in with a chance to make the Thomas Cup team in May, Wei Feng will next compete in the New Zealand Open on May 1-6, and the Australian Open on May 8-13.

It is understood that the first three singles spot for the Thomas Cup, will most likely be filled by former World No 1 Lee Chong Wei, Lee Zii Jia and Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, while the fourth singles spot is still up for grabs.
