Peng Soon-Liu Ying fall short Down Under

KUALA LUMPUR: A lacklustre performance by mixed doubles Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying saw them miss out on a chance to bag the Australian Open crown on Sunday.

The seventh seeded Malaysians were a far cry from their best, going down in straight games 21-12, 23-21 to South Korea's Seo Seung Jae-Chae Yujung at the Quay Centre in Sydney.

Liu Ying admitted it wasn't the Malaysian duo's best match, and that the South Koreans quickly capitalised on their mistakes.

"We were very poor today. Emotionally, we couldn't keep up on court. Our combination was also below par," said Liu Ying.

The last time Peng Soon-Liu Ying came good this year was in January, when they captured the Thailand Masters title.

Peng Soon-Liu Ying settled for US$5,700 (RM23,000) while Seo Seung-Yujung walked away with US$11,850.
