Shuttlers Pearly-Ee Wei on course for historic win

KUALA LUMPUR: Pearly Tan-Toh Ee Wei are on the cusp of making history by becoming the first Malaysian girls' doubles to win the Asian Junior Championships, after reaching the final in Jakarta today.

The third seeded Malaysians saw off local duo, Agatha Imanuela-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti 21-15, 23-21 in the semi-finals.

Pearly-Ee Wei will take on Indonesia’s Febriani Dwipuji Kusuma-Ribka Sugiarto for the title tomorrow.

Febriani-Ribka had earlier stunned top seeds, Liu Xuanxuan-Yuting Xia 25-23, 14-21, 21-15 in the semi-finals.

National junior chief coach, Kwan Yoke Meng said: ”I have faith in our shuttlers. Their experience should give them the upper hand. I just hope they can give one more good show to win the title tomorrow.”

Malaysia have never won the girls' doubles title since the tournament's inception in 1997. Last year, Leong Jun Hao came out tops in the boys' singles.
