KUALA LUMPUR: Except for Yap Roy King who fell in the first round on Monday, the Malaysian shuttlers performed creditably in the individual events of the World Junior Championships in Markham, Canada.
World No 51 Ng Tze Yong started the ball rolling for the boys when he upstaged world No 27, Saran Jamsri of Thailand 18-21, 21-13, 21-18 in a gruelling 74 minute match.
Independent shuttler, Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin, also did well to clear the first round with a 21-17, 19-21, 21-14 win over Hong Kong's Ko Shing Hei.
National junior head coach, Kwan Yoke Meng said: "I'm glad that Tze Yong made it through. He could not have asked for a tougher opening match.
"Saran has been really consistent on the international stage and has even beaten our national players, Lim Chi Wing and Leong Jun Hao previously.
"I believe Tze Yong should not face any difficulty in reaching the round of 16."
The other Malaysian shuttlers, who reached the second round weere girls' signles Eoon Qi Xuan and mixed doubles pairs Chia Wei Jie-Toh Ee Wei and Choong Hong Jian-Pearly Tan.
Former world junior champion Goh Jin Wei had received a first round bye.
