Peng Soon-Liu Ying's mission in Guangzhou

KUALA LUMPUR: National mixed doubles pair, Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying want to make up for their disappointment of going out early in the last two tournaments that they took part in by performing in the BWF World Tour Finals in Guangzhou, China next month.

The 2016 Rio Olympics silver medallists have been struggling with form when they were bundled out on the second round of the China Open and first round of the Hong Kong Open just last week.

However, Peng Soon-Liu Ying, who have already confirmed their slot for Guangzhou even though the tour ranking only closes on December 3, are adamant that they do not want to be continuously haunted by failures.

In fact, they want to ensure that they prepare as best they can for the end of the season championships.

“Of course we are disappointed with the early round losses in the two recent championships that we took part in, especially in Hong Kong where we went out in the first round itself.

“There’s not much we can say about those disappointments, which just goes to show that we not up to mark yet. We hope to rediscover our true form as soon as possible.

“We must focus on our preparations for the championships in Guangzhou,” said Liu Ying when contacted after playing in the Hong Kong Open.

Peng Soon-Liu Ying confirmed their slot for Guangzhou after placing fourth in the world tour rankings and their placing seems to be safe up until qualification ends on December 3.

This is the third time that the pair have qualified to play in the BWF World Tour Finals which offers overall prize money of US$1.5 million (RM6.28 million), after making the cut for the 2012 and 2013 editions.

During the 2012 edition in Shenzhen, Peng Soon-Liu Ying failed to get past the group stage but they did manage to go all the way to the semi-finals during the 2013 edition that was held in Kuala Lumpur.
