State BAs will have to up their game or risk getting their funds cut by the BA of Malaysia (BAM).
BAM president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria warned the state BAs against slacking off. “We (council) discussed this and we will handle it the way we run our junior tournaments, where we categorise players into divisions.
“It is relevant at this point to channel funds based on activity.
“We cannot be giving everyone the same amount when there isn’t much development,” said Norza after chairing BAM’s council meeting on Saturday.
According to him, state BAs must be held accountable, if they are not up to the mark when it comes to grassroots development.
“BAM do not want to victimise any state but they must take responsibility and be held accountable.
“I have spoken to Datuk Ng Chin Chai (development committee chairman) to look at academies by zone. We need to address this.
“Funding will be based on performance. We will assess their activities and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) from now on.
“Not everyone will get the same RM250,000-RM300,000 a year, no more.
“Given limited resources, states must justify their expenditure,” added Norza.
BAM have 15 affiliates, including the Kuala Lumpur BA and Cyberjaya BA.
