KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia, playing for the first time in badminton’s World Championships, is already making history.
The World No 13 ranked Malaysian stunned Japan’s eighth seed Kenta Nishimoto 21-15, 11-21, 22-20 in the men’s singles third round in Basel, Switzerland, yesterday to charge into the quarter-finals.
Zii Jia recorded his win over Nishimoto, his third in four meetings with the Japanese, after a 70-minute battle.
But the Malaysian faces an uphill task against defending champion and World No 1 Kento Momota of Japan in the last eight today.
