Badminton coach feels good about duo's form

GOH Soon Huat-Shevon Lai are peaking nicely for the Philippines Sea Games if the form of the mixed doubles pair in recent tournaments is anything to go by.

This was stated by coach Chin Eei Hui after Soon Huat-Shevon finished runners-up at the Korea Masters on Sunday. They also reached the semi-finals of the China and Hong Kong Opens earlier.

Soon Huat-Shevon, who finished runners-up to Thai duo P. Dechapol-T. Sapsiree at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Sea Games, will settle for nothing less than the gold this time.

“Overall, I am very happy with how they have done in their last three tournaments.

“This is great for their confidence ahead of the Sea Games.

“The Sea Games, however, will not be easy especially with Indonesian pair Praveen Jordan-Melati Daeva Oktavianti also in the field.

“Praveen-Melati are the current World No 5.”

The badminton competition at the Sea Games will begin with the team event on Sunday at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex in Manila.

The national men’s squad will open against Philippines while the women’s team face Cambodia.
