Japan chief coach cancels Jakarta trip to be with Momota

PUTRAJAYA: Japan chief coach Park Joo Bong is saddened by the misfortune that befell Kento Momota who suffered injuries following a road crash along Maju Expressway (MEX) today.

World No 1 Momota was injured and his driver was killed in a crash just hours after he won the Malaysia Masters.

Joo Bong was supposed to head to Jakarta together with other Japanese shuttlers for the Indonesia Masters, which starts tomorrow, but has since cancelled his plans to be with Momota at the Putrajaya Hospital, here.

“He (Momota) was supposed to leave for Japan this morning after winning the Malaysia Masters title yesterday.

“And then the accident happened. I'm deeply saddened," said Joo Bong, who declined to comment further, when met.
