Chong Ming to prove he's the right man

FORMER international Chan Chong Ming believes he is the right man to bring Malaysia's women's doubles to the next level.

Chong Ming, 40, reported for his first day as head coach at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara on Tuesday.

The former World No 1 men's doubles shuttler, who quit the national team in 2007, said he is excited and ready to do his best for the department.

"Right now I am still getting to know the players, at least for the next two weeks it will be slow and steady as the players have also just returned to on court training.

"I know what I must do. BAM brought me in to bring the women's doubles department to the next level and I am ready to do that," he said.

Chong Ming replaced former head coach, Rosman Razak, who has been moved to the men's doubles department. Assisting him are Malaysia's former women's No 1, Wong Pei Tty and Chin Eei Hui.

On working with his former teammates again, Chong Ming said: "Eei Hui and Pei Tty are very experienced, so it definitely makes a difference."

The 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medal winner also did his homework by contacting Rosman earlier to find out more about the players. "I did call Rosman before this to prepare myself. I asked him about the players, their condition and what needs improvement."

The Thomas and Uber Cup Finals are scheduled to be held in Aarhus, Denmark, on Oct 3-11.
